is perhaps the most interesting feature of the Galactic Center: the thin tendrils that hover over the Galactic Center like some sort of monstrous spider. The filaments are long (about 100 light years) and thin (typically, 20 arc seconds or about 3 light years wide). Instead of lying flat in the Milky Way, they shoot straight up from the galactic plane. Undoubtedly, the tendrils are associated with the magnetic field at the center of the galaxy, which loops up and out of the galactic disk.
